MYKYTA
SKOROKHOD
Software Developer

Hello, I'm Mykyta, a 25-year-old Information Systems graduate from the University of Cologne. My personal motto is “There's nothing I cannot do. Or first learn and then do”.

As a self-professed perfectionist, I believe that a job should be done well, if not perfectly. I find that aiming for perfection ensures the highest quality results, a principle I carry into my work.

I am currently seeking opportunities as a software developer, because it fascinates me to solve problems through my own creations, whether it’s code or Arduino-based devices. It's like solving puzzles with a real impact, making the world a better, safer or more comfortable place with every project.

Let's build a better future together, where empowerment, transparency and accountability lead to thriving communities.

1998

Born in Dnipro, Ukraine

in a young family of a civil engineer and economist as first and only child. From the very beginning I was a curious, restless and lively child willing to explore the world around me. This also led me to start my educational journey early on when I was only 5.

2015-2019

Start of academic journey

After successfully completing my secondary education, I enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Philology, Linguistics, and Translation at Dnipro University of Technology in my home city. At the time I wasn't really sure what I wanted to study, so I decided to enhance my language skills to be able to study and work worldwide.

In the year 2018, while finishing third year at the Ukrainian university, I enrolled at University of Cologne to pursue a second university degree in Information Systems. In the year 2019 I completed the final year of my first study through distance learning.

2020 - 2022

Work at DEVK Insurance

In 2020 because of COVID-19 outbreak I lost my job at the bar and found a new one at DEVK insurance company. I was a working student in a team, whose responsibility was testing, deploying and rolling-out new Microsoft releases.

While working there I independently taught myself VBA and automated a big part of the support process. On my own initiative, I developed a custom script that would query computers that required support through SCCM API, subsequently organizing the gathered data in an Excel file for further processing by support colleagues. In addition, I also improved and documented existing tools.

2023

Graduating from University of Cologne

In year 2023 I successfully completed my second university program. During the study I mastered Java and excelled in diverse courses, including machine learning (Python), hardware cryptography (VHDL), and data visualization (JS and HTML). Additionally, I acquired knowledge in mathematical analysis, statistics, computer science, and effective algorithms. Through this journey, I honed my skills in code analysis and optimization, delving into complexity theory. Above all, I found my true passion in writing code and solving problems with code.

In the last semester I participated in practical courses, writing a game in Java (source code on my GitHub) and developing an app in agile team of fellow students for insurance companies that would help them set, track and achieve Net-Zero goals.

2023 - present

Work at Zurich Insurance

In 2023, seeking a more dynamic role and a shift towards my passion for software engineering, I transitioned from DEVK Insurance to Zurich Insurance. Currently I obtain the role of working student within a team responsible for delivering both scheduled and on-demand contract calculations.

Due to the limitations and uncertain future of the currently used tools I initiated a transition towards newer technologies, especially Python. As for now, I managed to rewrite and improve two calculation tools, make minor improvements to many existing tools, create four private packages (threaded job scheduler, package for quering data from production database, package for quering data from old tools and basic graphical user interface) that are used by other developers in my team, and am also constantly sharing my experience and knowledge with my colleagues.
